Old Photos of Phan Thiết – The Iconic Water Tower
These are vintage photographs of Phan Thiết taken by Dr. Albert Sallet, a French physician who once served as the director of Phan Thiết Hospital.
Next, let’s take a look at the Phan Thiết Water Tower, seen through the window of an old house — an iconic symbol of the city. It was constructed in 1937 and designed by engineer Souphanouvong, who later became the President of Laos.
The Fish Sauce Road – The Original Phan Thiết–Mũi Né Route
Right in front of the Ancient Fishing Village Museum lies the historic Fish Sauce Road, once the main route connecting Phan Thiết and Mũi Né.
This road was privately funded and built by Madam Lục Thị Đậu, a renowned fish sauce magnate, who generously paid for its construction without collecting any tolls. Before this, there were no land routes, and people had to travel by boat.
In fact, most of the old roads in Phan Thiết and Mũi Né were built with money earned from the fish sauce trade — a true testament to how deeply this traditional craft shaped the region’s prosperity.
